Perspiration Fastness Test
The Perspiration Tester is widely used in determining the color fastness of textiles to perspiration, sea water, saliva and distilled water. The colored textile specimen combined together with the prescribed lining fabric is wet out in a simulated acid perspiration solution or others. After the wetting processed, the specimen combination is extruded to remove the excess fluid and sandwiched between the sample board, applied with specified pressure for a certain period of time. Then dry the specimen and the lining fabric seperately and observe the color change.
Preparation of the samples
The sample has to be tested in the delivered condition; don’t wash and/or tumble it before testing.
It has to be used only multifibre from James Heal, type DW the face side of the fabric/sample has to be testedone litre of the perspiration solution has to be prepared freshly the solution for the alkaline perspiration test has to be prepared with the saltNa2HPO4 2H2O di-sodium hydrogen orthophosphate dehydrate
not with Na2HPO4 12H2O salt di-sodium hydrogen orthophosphate dodecahydratethe uniform penetration of the specimen has to be ensured by using liquor with a liquor ratio 50:1for 30 min.
The penetration of both parts (fabric and multifibre) has to be done in a flat bottomed Petri dish (A).
After this process the specimen weight has to be 2x to 2,5x of the original weightthe test equipment has to be heated up to 37°C at least 1 hour before testingeven you test only one, two or three specimens you have to use at least 5 glass or acrylic resin plates (F) (place them first) to ensure that the pressure (loading) will work on the specimen correctly; the screws should be fixed perfectly to guarantee a permanent defined pressure it has to be ensured that the plates are even/ flat
Test Procedure:
The composite specimen laid out smooth in a flat-bottomed dish and cover with thesolution.
One composite specimen is thoroughly wet in the alkaline solution at pH 8 at a liquor ratioof 50: 1, and allowed it to remain in the solution at room temperature for 30 min.
It is pressed and moved from time to time to ensure good and uniform penetration of theliquor. The solution is pour off and wipes the excess liquor off the specimen between two glassrods.
The composite specimen is placed between two glass or acrylic resin plates, under apressure of 12.5 kPa.
Separate apparatus is used for the acid test.
Tester is placed in oven containing composite specimen in the oven for 4 h at 37C ± 2C.
Each composite specimen is opened out and dried it by hanging it in air at a temperaturenot exceeding 60C, with the two or three parts in contact only at the line of stitching.
Assess the change in color of each specimen and the staining of the adjacent fabric(s) withthe grey scales.
