Test method for DIN 53516 / DIN ISO 4649
Din rubber abrasion testing machine is mainly used for the abrasion resistance detection of an elastic material, conveyor belts, rubber, tires, shoe soles, synthetic leather and other soft materials.Din Abrasion Tester helps to determine the abrasion resistance of natural or synthetic rubbers, thermoplastic amorphous polymers and vulcanized thermo-set rubbers that are focused to frictional wear in their definite service like conveyor drive belts, tyres and shoe soles. During the test procedure, the quantity of rubber reduced due to abrasion is measured.
In din abrasion testing method, to analyze the abrasion resistance of synthetic rubber, the test specimen is grazed against an abrasive platform mounted on a cylindrical drum in such a manner that so that the testing takes place on one of the flat end points of the sample, which is held against the abrasive surface under a determined weight. In this process, the test sample does not move on the same surface of abrasive paper, but progressively a new side of the paper appears in rotation of the drum.
The method conforming to DIN 53516 / DIN ISO 4649 has proven to be the best way of simulating long term wear.
DIN 53516 -The test method is used to assess the abrasion of elastomers subjected to wear by abrasive action. The method is suitable for comparative testing, for checking product uniformity, and for drawing up specifications. However, the results obtained from testing cannot be assumed to represent exactly the wear behaviour of elastomers in actual services.
DIN ISO 4649-The methods involve determination of the volume loss due to the abrasive action of rubbing a test piece over a specified grade of abrasive sheet. Method A is for a non-rotating test piece and method B for a rotating test piece. For each method, the result can be reported as a relative volume loss or an abrasion resistance index.
This method enables comparative tests for the control of the uniformity of a specific material.
