China's share of U.S. apparel imports falls below 20% for the first time
Textile and apparel: January-March, the United States imported $28.57 billion of textile and apparel, down 21.4% year-on-year. Imports from China 6.29 billion U.S. dollars, down 35.8% year-on-year; accounting for 22%, down 4.9 percentage points year-on-year. Imports from Vietnam, India, Bangladesh and Mexico fell 24%, 16.3%, 14.4% and 0.2% year-on-year, accounting for 12.8%, 8.9%, 7.8% and 5.2%, an increase of -0.4, 0.5, 0.6 and 1.1 percentage points, respectively.
Textiles: January-March, imports of $ 7.68 billion, down 23.7% year-on-year. Imports from China 2.58 billion U.S. dollars, down 36.5% year-on-year; accounting for 33.6%, down 6.8 percentage points. Imports from India, Mexico, Pakistan, Turkey year-on-year -22.6%, 1.8%, -14.6% and -24%, accounting for 16%, 8%, 6.3% and 4.7%, respectively, an increase of 0.3, 2, 0.7 and -0.03 percentage points.
Apparel: January-March, imports of $ 21.43 billion, down 21% year-on-year. Imports from China 4.12 billion U.S. dollars, down 35.3%; accounting for 19.2%, a decrease of 4.3 percentage points. Imports from Vietnam, Bangladesh, India and Indonesia fell 24.4%, 13.7%, 11.3% and 18.9% year-on-year, accounting for 16.1%, 10%, 6.5% and 5.9%, respectively, an increase of -0.7, 0.8, 0.7 and 0.2 percentage points.
