Oxygen Index Test Apparatus
The Oxygen Index Test Apparatus determines the minimum oxygen concentration required to sustain combustion of a material in a controlled mixture of oxygen and nitrogen. The result, expressed as a volume percentage, is known as the limiting oxygen index (LOI) and is used to evaluate the combustion behavior of plastics, textiles, films, paper, and other suitable materials.
The instrument uses an oxygen analyzer to provide a digital oxygen concentration reading with a stated accuracy of ±0.1%. Oxygen and nitrogen flow rates are automatically adjusted to achieve the selected oxygen concentration. Automatic calibration and push-button concentration settings simplify operation and improve testing consistency.
The apparatus includes a heat-resistant glass chimney, sample holders for self-supporting and non-self-supporting specimens, and a burner assembly. Its digital display provides oxygen concentration, flow rate, chimney temperature, elapsed time, and instrument status. It is suitable for material research, flame-retardant development, and laboratory quality control.
